Amazon’s Three-For-Two Promotion Rocks

Raindogs
I know that I’ve complained before about the waste of CDs, but a killer deal is a killer deal. If you still like the material thing and you’re down with collecting some desert-island discs for the apocalypse, Amazon’s latest promotion might not be a bad place to stop off while you’re grabbing some bottled water and duct tape.

Some of rock, pop and hip-hop’s seminal efforts can be had for less than a Hamilton until October 2. Two discs land you a third one, gratis. If you’re late on Tom Waits, his finest efforts are on the list, including Rain Dogs, Swordfishtrombones and more. Practically everything from Rush is on sale, which might make the disciples who dropped 500 comments on my Rush post mad, but at least they can get what they love for cheap. Same goes for The Moody Blues, Nirvana, Steely Dan and other lifers. Sonic Youth’s Daydream Nation is up for grabs, as are R.E.M.’s brilliant first two albums.

Meanwhile, Public Enemy’s It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Eric B. and Rakim’s Paid in Full, two of hip-hop’s foundational efforts, made the grade, as did some mothership magic from George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic.

Of course, not everything on the list might be worth grabbing. I think the less that is said about the soundtracks from Flashdance and Vision Quest, the better. But at least the Easy Rider soundtrack is there to pick up the slack.
